ABOUT 

The Papua New Guinea Handball Federation (PNGHF) is the official national governing body for the sport of Handball (both indoor and beach versions) in Papua New Guinea. Established in 2013, the PNGHF is dedicated to introducing and expanding the game across the country.

  • Growth Focus: The Federation is focused on expanding the sport from an introductory level to senior competition players, with support from international experts and programs like the German Sports Cooperation Programme.

  • Ranking: PNG is often ranked among the top five of the 16 Oceania nations actively playing the sport, highlighting its potential and commitment.

  • Mission: The PNGHF strives to promote Handball as a highly inclusive sport, driving its introduction into new provinces to give all Papua New Guineans an opportunity to participate.

The PNGHF is fully integrated into the global and regional handball community:

International & Regional

  • International Handball Federation (IHF): The PNGHF is a full member of the IHF (since 2013), the global governing body for handball, and holds voting rights at the IHF World Congress.

  • Oceania Continent Handball Federation (OCHF): The regional confederation that governs handball in Oceania. PNGHF is a full member and actively participates in regional events like the IHF Trophy Oceania.

  • Papua New Guinea Sports Federation and Olympic Committee (PNGOC): The PNGHF is recognized as a National Federation, allowing its teams to compete as part of Team PNG at multi-sport events.
